Time Traveling

This is insane:

The Khronos Projector: a video time-warping machine with a tangible deformable screen

The goal of the Khronos Projector is to go beyond these forms of exclusive temporal control, by giving the user an entirely new dimension to play with: by touching the projection screen, the user is able to send parts of the image forward or backwards in time. By actually touching a deformable projection screen, shaking it or curling it, separate "islands of time" as well as "temporal waves" are created within the visible frame. This is done by interactively reshaping a two-dimensional spatio-temporal surface that "cuts" the spatio-temporal volume of data generated by a movie.

Holiday Season

There's almost nothing that makes me happier with art than light and sound being combined together in a harmonious way that makes me feel like Yes, that makes so much sense. I'm a big fan of The Internet Archive, and here is a video I stumbled on that is delightful and tacky.

Cool Christmas Lights

Flickering TV Lights

Flickering Signifiers by Ken Rinaldo

When I first had the idea of making a video of ambient TV light, naturally I went to Google and this site was one of the results of my search.

Flickering Signifiers is an ambient light installation concerned with the rhythmic nature of television light and how it is used to seduce and compel the viewer into a kind of hypnotic and passive inaction-while watching.

This installation touches on the more intense and cultish qualities of TV. What really interests me about looking at TV/video as an object--rather than a messenger of reality TV shows that I shamelessly enjoy--is because I want to move beyond the big debate and fuss about the content of video and just strip it down to the pixels and flashing lights.

Once upon a simple time ago, people stared at radios. I want to rewind time and have a similar awe and experience with TV.

This is the start of something good

Quick brain dump of light-related things that I really like and need to elaborate on, before I forget:

-Laser shows
-VJs
-Projectors
-TVs and computers as light sources
-Cities + lights
